Fisherman Van Hen Lu, and his wife Thieu Mai Ly, are $7.2 million richer after claiming last Wednesday’s Lotto 6/49 jackpot.
The Vancouver fisherman, whose boat is docked in Richmond, purchased the winning ticket at Petro Canada on Steveston Highway.
“My wife and I checked our Lotto 6/49 tickets this morning,” said Lu as he received his cheque at BCLC’s Vancouver office. “I still can’t believe it. We put the ticket in the machine three times just to be sure. We both started dancing.”
Lu matched all six of his regularly-played numbers on the August 17 Lotto 6/49 draw to win the $7.2 Million jackpot.
“We rushed home to tell the kids,” said Ly. “I screamed at everyone to wake up. It’s so exciting. It is our son’s birthday and he doesn’t know yet.”
The family plans on buying a new house and Lu plans to “buy a nice, new motor for my fishing boat.”
This winning ticket is the first of two jackpots won in Richmond in the last two weeks. A second $7 million winning ticket sold in Richmond on the August 3, 2011 draw remains unclaimed.by
