LOTTO MAX came knocking at the door of Montague, PEI couple Chris Hopkins and Sandra Travis this past Friday night, and with a $1-million Maxmillions prize up for the taking, they happily answered.
With 90,000 wins big and small across Atlantic Canada daily, every win is a celebrated one. But you could say that this win is extra-special. Friday’s Maxmillions prize marks the first of its kind for Prince Edward Island since LOTTO MAX launched in September 2009.
Do Chris and Sandra have any extra-special plans to match their history-making win? A few, but top priority is processing the fact that they’re now $1-million richer. But, after hearing Chris’ story, one might think that he had a feeling luck was waiting around the corner…
“It’s kind of a funny story, actually,” recounts Chris, who spends most of his year working away in Tulita, Northwest Territories. “My friend who works at the convenience store up North was trying to get me to buy my LOTTO MAX ticket from him. But I kept saying, Nah, I’m going back to the Island on Thursday, so I’m waiting to buy the winning ticket there.”
A playful joke with a friend ended up being quite the self-fulfilling prophecy, with a $1-million cheque included. Now…the dreams to coincide with the cheque! Since Sandra just purchased a new car a week ago, they’ve already checked the standard ‘new car’ purchase off their list. But another auto-related dream may now be closer to a reality. For years, the two have dreamt of attending the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona – and now 2012 may see that dream realized.
