Ottawa resident Wayne Bernard is on ‘cloud 6/49’ after winning $12,956,563 in the April 7, 2012 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“I didn’t sleep all night,” said Wayne while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim his prize. “I’m very happy!”
Wayne checked his tickets at a lottery retailer and was shocked when the machine started playing the winning music, “I couldn’t believe it! I couldn’t wait to get home and share the news with my wife.”
Since Lotto 6/49 was launched in June 1982, Ontario players have won more than $9.7 billion in prizes, including 1,226 jackpot wins.
Wayne, who has played Lotto 6/49 since its inception, plans to take care of some of his debts with the windfall. “It’s going to feel so nice to pay off our house,” said Wayne.
The winning ticket was purchased at Jack’s Place on Bank Street in Ottawa.by
