Bob Maggiacomo and Eleanor Canavan have regularly played Lotto 6/49 for years, and often imagined what they would do if they won a big jackpot. Their dreams came true this past weekend when they won $15 million in the Saturday, April 23 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“I always said that somebody needs to win, and that’s why I kept playing!” laughed Eleanor, explaining that her husband Bob was a bit of a skeptic.
Maggiacomo checked their tickets at home with the newspaper, as he usually does on Sunday mornings. When he realized he had a match for 6 numbers, he couldn’t believe it.
“I ran upstairs and woke up Eleanor and said ‘Hey millionaire, come look at this!'” he said. His wife was also in disbelief, and so together they booted up the computer and checked online to confirm they had a match to the winning numbers.
Once the couple arrived at the OLG Toronto Prize Centre, the reality of their win finally set in and they opened up about their one ultimate lottery dream.
“We’re going to buy a small house with a big garage. I’m a bit of a car nut!” laughed Maggiacomo. The couple, who are both life-long Willowdale residents, have been married for 30 years and have two grown children.
“We’ll help our family out as well, but we’re not really thinking just yet about how we’re going to spend the money!” said Canavan, who works as a buyer for a computer hardware distributor. Maggiacomo is a semi-retired auto mechanic.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart Newtonbrook Plaza at Yonge and Steeles in Toronto.by
