Toronto Ontario Janitor Wins $16.6 Million In Lotto Max Draw

It was an ordinary Saturday morning for Toronto resident John Addo, when he went about his usual routine of checking his lottery tickets at a neighbourhood retailer. When he discovered that he had a winning ticket for $16.6 million, from the April 15 LOTTO MAX draw, he was stunned and didn’t know what to do.

“When I gave the retailer my ticket and she told me how much I won, I went into shock. I immediately went straight home and lay down for awhile to think about it. Then I called a friend to come over, so that I could tell someone,” said Addo.

The hard-working employee of a local industrial cleaning company, who has been living in Toronto for three years and working seven days a week to make ends meet, says he never lost faith in the lottery.

“My coworkers would often tease me about my weekly ticket purchase, but I had faith I was going to win,” said Addo. “But when it really happened, I couldn’t stop crying. I just thank OLG, as I could never have imagined winning this much money in my life.”

Addo came to Canada from Ghana twenty years ago, settling down in Montreal until moving to Toronto three years ago. Addo says he still has lots of family in his native Ghana.

“I will definitely go back and visit my family now. My first priority though will be to buy a home of my own and invest my money properly,” said Addo.

The winning ticket was purchased at Gateway Newstand at Wellington and John Streets in Toronto.
